A Play for children & Young People - in development
A very talented group of young artists worked with Dende Collective Artistic Director Andre Pink for 14 sessions spread over 2 months and together they devised a theatre piece to perform at GLYPT’s Annual Youth Theatre Festival, alongside companies from across London. The final result was a fifteen-minute show telling the first part of the story. As in previous shows from Dende, the work with young people will feed into what might become a professional theatre show.
LA BIBLIOTECA
A Commedia Dell'Arte site specific show with young people
This was the third time Dende collaborated with CYAC - Contact Young Actors Company. They created a show where the audience experienced The John Rylands Library as they’ve never seen it before in a promenade performance that explored love and hierarchies, past and present. Using the traditional 16th century Italian form of Commedia Dell’Arte, the Library was brought vividly to life. Two 16th century Commedia scenarios by Flaminio Scala were deconstructed and performed simultaneously in all the rooms of this magnificent building: The Toothpuller and The Two Identical Capitanos. This was a walk-through promenade performance at The John Rylands Library, Deansgate, Manchester.
THE CHALLENGE
A Learning Skills Project
THE CHALLENGE was a two-month programme divided in three parts, which aims to 'inspire a generation of young people to lead social change’. Dende Collective was one the organisations selected to deliver the second part of the programme called Team Challenge. This was a three-day project where each day the young 15 to16 year olds were learning new skills in the morning and then serving their community in the afternoon. The project culminated in a Festival where all the teams working that summer gathered together to showcase their new acquired skills.
SUPERHERO TV
One-week residency and a play with young people
This was a residency of our artists at this school where they worked with a group of boys aged of African Caribbean origin from 7- 10 years old from Years 4, 5 and 6. The objective was to improve their literacy skills through the process of devising a piece of theatre. The project embraced the boys’ passion for comics and superheroes through drama and visual arts. They devised and wrote scenes for their play SUPERHERO TV.
LARKIN IN THE PARK
A Street Theatre show with young people
Once again we paired up with the Theatre Lyric Hammersmith. This time to create an outdoor theatre performance with young people aged 13 to 18 years old presented in Castelnau Recreation Ground. The show was based in the local history and was devised by the young people through a series of drama, movement and storytelling workshops. The project culminated with a free outdoor performance loosely inspired by the play Us and Them by David Campton.
