Dende Collective members run a series of education activities in schools, art centres and community projects. Some of the themes have varied from: masks, puppetry, storytelling, Brazilian culture, citizenship, radio drama, multi media, etc. Contact us if you would like to know more.

Dona Flor and her Two Husbands by Dende Collective

Dona Flor and her Two Husbands – workshops

Dende Collective is presenting a new and exciting piece of theatre at the Lyric Hammersmith, Dona Flor and her Two Husbands based on the novel by the Brazilian writer Jorge Amado for 3 weeks from 15th March 2006 to 1st April. Dende Collective is offering a range of flexible educational packages and a resource pack for teachers. Contact us to discuss the posibility of finding the most appropiate workshop for your students.

The workshops are offered on the weeks commencing March 21st and March 28th 2006. All the workshops will be led by two CBR checked professional workshop leaders from Dende Collective, specialised on the theme covered by the chosen workshop (Shadow Puppetry, Samba, Devising, Masks, Text work, Capoeira, Improvisation)

We can negotiate special arrangements or bespoke packages (one off, residencies, etc).

Piranha Lounge by Dende Collective

April 2006 Youth Project at Contact Theatre, Manchester
CLUB PIRANHA - 21st to 29th April

Dende Collective artistic director Andre Pink and core member Montserrat Gili will be working with the talented youth group based at the Contact Theatre. A strong cast of 25 will take the challenge to devise Dende style.

The young performers will immerse themselves in the magic world of South American story telling where the mundane and magical live together in perfect harmony.

Devising for performance – University of East London, October workshop

Dende Collective is running a number of workshops for HE undergraduate students following modules in devising theatre based on the show OneFourSeven.

This workshop has arisen out of the company’s Arts Council-funded tour of OneFourSeven – a devised show around the theme of waiting rooms – which toured the UK in 2005

2004-2005 Youth Project at the Arts Depot

Dende Collective’s artistic director Andre Pink and core member Montserrat Gili have been working two months at the Arts Depot –a major new arts centre in North Finchley, London- where they have been devising with the Youth Groups two theatre pieces based on two Brazilian stories… all in a recognizable Dende style!

In these two shows we are also collaborating for the first time with the Irish and Greek designers Genevieve Mc Gill and Alkisti Mamali and with the Cambodian British writer Hong Khaou.

THE TWO DEATHS OF QUINCAS WATERYELL

After a decade living among the bums, pimps and prostitutes, Quincas Wateryell, king of the city of Salvador lowlife meets his Maker. His prim family promptly claims the corpse for a proper burial. Quincas still sneers at them. When a bottle of rum arrives at the wake, Quincas decides the party might be too good to miss.

A tale about freedom versus the norm performed by young people aged 16 to 19 years old.

The peaceful town of Backwardville is invaded by strange creatures. What are they? Aliens? Werewolves? Dragons? They divide people’s opinions. Are they a menace to the town's customs or can they benefit the economy? Shall they be sent to the local Abu-Guraib hostel or made into minced meat?

A fable about not so distant events performed by an amazing and talented group of 9 to 11 years old.
